2019.11.27 00:53 voidoid87 Buying a buggy (car) as a foreigner

Hola, guys, I'm a foreigner (russian) currently living in Mexico with my girlfriend (russian too) as a tourist, planning to stay here for 6 months. Recently I saw a mexican guy that drove a buggy, I was totally fascinted by that vehicle and asked him where did he buy it. He said that he bought it for 7000 pesos in Mexico City and drove down here, in Puerto Escondido. Now I have an idea to buy a buggy for myself and have a road trip around this beautiful country. Can you give me some tips and advices about my idea? Is it legal to drive a buggy on conventional roads? What is the best city to buy a buggy with wide choice and fair prices? Recently, I considered an option to buy car, so any tips related to buying a car here would be appreciated too.

2019.07.08 08:11 Yonderme El apóstol de Dios no peca y nadie lo puede juzgar, solo Dios - The apostle of God can't sin, and nobody can judge him, only God.

___________________________________________________________________________________

One of the biggest lies taught in The Light of the World is the doctrine that their "apostles" cannot be judged by anyone, only God.

It is so widespread and rooted that false doctrine, that even high-ranking ministers whose daughters have been abused and even raped by their "apostles" defend him to death. And when their daughters, some even minors report abuses or abuse attempts, they silence any doubt or intention to make it public "so as not to sadden the man of God".
Obviously, this doctrine is not taught publicly and explicitly in LLDM temples, but it is taught in private indoctrination groups, and even transmitted from mothers to daughters.
Mothers who in their youth were abused by an "apostle" of LLDM feel so blessed and close to God for that "privilege" that they begin to indoctrinate their daughters in the same belief as soon as they have the use of reason.
This oral tradition that passes from mothers to daughters of members of The Light of the World, is what has allowed this abuse to become "institutional" that is, when a new "apostle" comes to power or as Naason said colloquially " When his time comes, "it is part of his" apostolic "right and inheritance.
Eusebio "Aaron" Joaquín González exercised in his time the infamous "Derecho de pernada" or Prima Nocte. Although the spokesmen and even the "apostles" themselves have denied that such a practice has been exercised in their organization, although not prescribed in their written or oral doctrine, if it happened de facto, although it was never called in that way it is known as an "apostolic blessing".
Samuel Joaquín Flores, when he rose to power in 1964, began to exercise this "apostolic privilege" even before the initial opposition of his wife Eva. Little by little she was convinced that it was her "privilege" with the help of Eusebio's former concubines, among whom were Carmen R, Martha L, Luz B, Andrea C, and many others, of whom she only survived. Martha L and Andrea C.
Samuel Joaquín Flores, formed his own "harem" in addition to the women inherited from his father, but this right was not limited to the women of his harem but to many of the daughters of women who were "blessed" by Eusebio during his absolute control of the lives and wills of its power reserve which I call "Beautiful Province", after having exercised it in its first community in the October 12th neighborhood. This "apostolic right" was exercised over many young women who were under the tutelage of their concubines, since they held positions as "in charge" of the groups of young ladies, and convinced their pupils to surrender their virginity to the "most important man about the face of the earth "or" the apostle ".
At the mysterious demise (The death certificate and the causes of his death have not yet been made public) of Samuel Joaquín Flores, who was rumored to suffer from an incurable cancer disease, in addition to the ravages that AIDS caused in his person for the homosexual practices to which he was addicted, Naason Joaquín García, the fourth of the sons of Samuel Joaquín and obvious heir of the "apostolic crown", rose to the "apostleship", which was negotiated or imposed by Samuel Joaquin during the years of his agony,
Naason had already shown his excessive sexual appetite during the years of his youth at the shadow of his father, who never corrected or imposed any restrictions on such behavior, like that of any of his other children, and was never discreet in his amorous escapades.
They are well known by the settlers of the Beautiful Province, their gang-like escapades and fame of princely casanova. Many young people of those times can give testimony of how some of them, already being on the verge of marrying with some young person graced in Hermosa Provincia, ran into with the unpleasant news that already Naason took advantage of their brides in waiting.
When Naason was at the height of his power, influence and wealth, he went wild in the exercise of his sexual practices under the shade, complicity, and coverage of his team of unconditional, in this case, the group made up mostly of staff of Casa Cultural Berea and Bereavision.
That was his hunting ground and fertile field for the attraction of men, young women, and women eager to obtain a place in "the new era", some with sincere intentions, others already with the experience and malice obtained under the service to his father, who became his most loyal victims and accomplices. One example of them we saw when Naason was arrested at the airport in Los Angeles, California, along with Susie and Becky. Alondra was waiting for him at his house in Dangler Ave.
Captured with three of its most faithful collaborators. He was not detained with pastors or ministers, he was detained with single women without any ecclesiastical office, without his wife or another member of his immediate family.
Pastoral trip or forbidden pleasure trip?
Along with these women of dubious reputation, multiple electronic devices were seized with evidence taken by Naason himself and his collaborators.
I know young people who were raped by Naason Joaquín García who are daughters of ministers in positions as tall as the bombastic "Council of Bishops." A council that does not advise but servilely obeys the orders that from behind the bars, Naason transmits.
These young women went to their parents to denounce the violations with the confidence that they would protect them, and in return received the cold and disgustingly servile response of "he is an apostle of God and only God judges him".
This is true, those of the Council of Bishops know it, the mothers of the victims know it, a large percentage of members close to the hierarchy know this and what they have done? Bend their neck before this blasphemous monster who calls himself an "apostle of God".
If I were a father or a mother of one of the victims or a member of the infamous "Council of Bishops", I would have already denounced the false apostle or, failing that, I would have tied a millstone in my neck and thrown into the deep sea.

2019.06.28 02:09 GammaRay_X [DIPLOMACY] Protecting the Aegean

Despite the acceptance of Montenegro into the Venetian Republic, Doge Leonardo Loredan was anxious. The Ottoman threat still loomed large over the Aegean. With the islands of Naxos still under siege by the perfidious turks, something had to be done to protect the rest of the Aegean from the forceful spread of Islam. While troops had already been sent to secure the rest of Venice's island territories, there remained two areas still at clear risk - the Genovese Aegean territories, and the lands of the Knights Hospitaller. Neither would be able to handle a direct invasion from an Ottoman menace able to raise one hundred thousand troops, but Venice could. To this end, two letter were sent in an attempt help better defend all Christians in the Aegean from a militant Turkish threat.

To The Most Superb Doge of Genoa, Andrea Doria,
Despite our longstanding rivalry in the world of Mediterranean commerce, I write to you today as a friend and ally. As we are both so unfortunately aware, the Ottoman threat to the freedom of trade, navigation, and worship of God in the Aegean has never been more evident. And to be direct, I do not believe either of us are under the delusion that you alone could hold off their full might should they look to take what they have said time and time again was "their rightful territory". I am sure I do not need to explain to you the danger that Ottoman rule would mean for your people and their way of life on those islands.
To that end, I will make you an offer. Let Venice take the island in, and protect them. Their way of life will be unimpeded, your traders will maintain all the rights they have had to the island, and you do not have to worry about a possible Ottoman attack on the territory. If you agree to this option, giving your people a more secure future than they have had in decades, we will be happy to compensate you to a tune of One Hundred and Seventy-Five Thousand Florins, which you can undoubtedly use to improve the beautiful city of Genoa, its harbor, or whatever else you so desire.
Think on it. Security for your people and money for your treasury. A true win-win.
Yours in faith,
Leonardo Barbarigo, Serenissimo Principe de Serenìsima Repùblica Vèneta

To the most Honorable Grand Master Pierre of the Knights Hospitaller,
I write to your most holy order today as a brother in faith facing one of our greatest mortal enemies - militant Islam headed by the menace of the Ottoman Empire. A nation with a standing force one hundred thousand men strong, it will take every ounce of willpower and faith we can muster to overpower them in direct combat.
While I have the utmost respect and admiration for your brave knights, I unfortunately cannot delude myself into believing that a force just seven thousand strong would be able to hold off that massive Ottoman force, should it attempt to take your Aegean territories. And it is my strong and fear-fraught belief that such an action is something they fully intend to do at some point in the near future. The fall of Rhodes and your fair nights would strike unyielding sorrow into my pious heart, and is something I hope to never see.
To that end, I approach you today with an offer of protection. I will provide you immediately with Fifty Thousand Florins and a number of my finest engineers to bolster the defenses around your cities and harbors to protect your people from those that would seek to dominate you, as well as a contingent of one thousand of my men, dispersed across your territories as you wish, to help improve the strength of your garrisons. Additionally, the entirety of the Venetian Navy and Military is pledged to your defense in times of conflict. In return, a voluntary vassalage with the Serene Republic of Venice would leave you with full sovereignty over your internal workings and an increased influence over the majority of the Aegean. In order to abide by your establishing Papal Bull Pie Postulatio Voluntatis, all vassal payments would be voluntary, and the Consejo de i Diexe would have absolutely zero authority or influence over your internal workings, while protecting them from any incursion from outside forces.
We eagerly await your response, and hope that together we can build a safer Aegean for all Catholics.
Yours in faith,
Leonardo Barbarigo, Serenissimo Principe de Serenìsima Repùblica Vèneta

2019.06.12 20:01 Cmmntynsnty LET’S PROTECT WHAT IS OURS

We can all agree how wonderful this subreddit is and how it has helped us all in moments when things just seem so dark. We are able to speak our minds and let our voices be heard, when prior to this, we have not been allowed to do that without fear of being rejected, threatened, or harmed. This is a place of refuge for all of us.
However…
Now that the NJG is behind bars and awaiting trial, there are new hurdles ahead as we go forward. We are encountering more people coming here to the subreddit, which is wonderful that others can find support and warmth as they are dealing with the aftermath of the nightmares from LLDM. However, there are also people who would love nothing more than to pick a apart the stories, find out who is posting things, and to dig up information to use in a harmful manner. NJG’s defense team are typical slime bags (yes, Mr. Sawyer, I am talking about you and your sidekicks) and I’m sure they are being paid large sums of money to find anything to use against the prosecution to get NJG out of the trouble it seems he’s put himself in. And then we have LLDM members who are so blinded from this sick cult and its leader, that they will do whatever they feel they need to do to “help” the defense. This means that they will try to find out the “who dunnits” and slander anyone who comes against their precious abuser – err, I mean apostle. They will seek to coerce and harm the victims to get them to stop talking. They were successful in the 90’s with SJF and his disgusting activities, so they will attempt to repeat history and use the same tactics.
We EACH share a role in protecting and supporting the victims. If you know of leaks within LLDM or other sensitive info – please let the moderators via pm or you can private message me. Putting it public is not in their best interest. We may all want to know, but there are specific things that we need to make sure that we think about first before we post. The victims are putting everything on the line – and we will benefit because of their sacrifices. We owe it to them to protect and support them. If you will kindly share with the right people first, then we will help the victims and show them our support and help them feel encouraged. Most are afraid to tell their own family… these brave ones are risking everything in front of more than just family.
LLDM screams discrimination, and perhaps there truly are some instances, and those instances are not the correct response either. The beautiful thing about this subreddit is the integrity of information, the warmth of the members, and the wisdom used in sharing information.
I think it is important to welcome those who come, monitor what is said, and if they are behaving in a manner that is not what the reddit is about, notify the moderators to have them removed. And for those who act inappropriately, this is your warning: you will be removed.
For media, there are outlets that you can use to request information. Please respect our community and not use personal messages. This is a very difficult time for everyone and we know you want information, and there is some you can have, but the correct channels must be used. We will be working on ways for you to reach out regarding inquiries – we just ask for respect and refrain from messaging everyone.
For dirt-digging attorneys and LLDM members who are here in the interest of stirring up issues – you are not welcome here. You will not find anything other than truth here, and by your decisions, it is apparent that you are not looking for that. We know our rights and have the counsel we need. If you want to continue in lack of respect for human decency and even for yourself, do that elsewhere.
For the LLDM members who come here to look for “dirt”. SHAME ON YOU! Don’t you realize that the Bible teaches that God HATES gossip?? You know why? Because it’s hurtful! You FOOLS! You want to condemn people with hell, look in the mirror – because the Bible gives explicit details for exactly what happens to those who gossip and slander. You want to know truth? Shut your mouths until you KNOW truth. Interesting fact - about 2% of allegations of sexual abuse are proven to be false - and only 40% of all sexual abuse is even reported. Might want to start rethinking how great your apostle is. Those stats don't look very promising.
We are united – here for truth and for compassion for one another. We are all intelligent, yet wounded in one way or another. Let’s stick together and form a wall around the victims – not to harm anyone, but to protect that which means most to us.
I’ve said enough. My heart goes out to the ones who are hurting – we are warriors and we will win this. Just hang in there.

Ya he dicho suficiente.

Hello Boca fans! I am travelling to the beautiful Buenos Aires in a couple of weeks, and I really want to get tickets to a Boca game at the Bombonera while I’m there. Does anyone here know the cheapest/best way for a gringo to get a match ticket? Also, any advice for attending the match/enjoying Buenos Aires? I’d really appreciate it. ¡Muchas gracias amigos!

2018.05.03 04:30 zoonthego Are buses or airplanes better for intercity travel within Colombia?

Obviously, airplanes are the faster way and more convenient, but I have read very conflicting information about bus travel. Right now, a multi city flight between Medellin, Bogota and Cartagena is only $149. If I went that route I'd take buses to smaller places as side trips.
Reasons I'd not want to fly is to save money and have flexibility. But I've heard the buses are dreadfully long rides and often late. Additionally, I've read the buses there go frighteningly fast on poorly made roads up in mountains. But I've also read the buses provide great scenery and offer premium amenities and comfortable seats . I also read about Colectivos, small vehicles that transport travelers between cities.
I want to travel on what gets me the most for my money. $149 flight does not seem that bad for 3 flights, but if the experience on a bus is fine and saves me a considerable amount of money, I'd prefer that for the flexibility--I understand flights there are expensive on short notice and I can book a bus seat at the terminal.
Thanks for your advice! I look forward to seeing the beautiful Colombia.

2017.03.30 12:28 immuchcooleroffline Radio Garden, a site that lets you hear radio stations from all over the world, great for practice! And some recommended stations from Mexico.

Radio Garden, I found this site a while back on /InternetIsBeautiful and I've been using it for practice my German and Italian, maybe it can be of help to you to. To get you started I'm going to share some of the radio stations I'm familiar with here in Mexico.
Since it's streaming directly from the radio station you'll have to deal with commercial breaks and all of that. This will help you get the times for when the programs I'll mention go on air, remember that Mexico City is usually on CST.
I wrote this next part in both Spanish and English I will post both, but for now only the English one will have links now both sections have links :), if you want to read the stations description in Spanish just scroll a little bit more.
ENGLISH
  • Alfa 91.3 Site : They mostly play "Top 40" songs, so you can mostly expect to hear a lot of the same song you'll hear on any major radio station in the US, the flagship of this station is "Toño Esquinca y la Muchedumbre" the show runs Mondays through Fridays, from 6 AM to 1 PM. This show as many of the others morning shows is all about positivity and that kind of stuff, he has a lot of contest for people to call and win money, he also has mantras, quotes of the day, and short jokes. I belive is one of the most heard shows here in Mexico City.
  • El Fonógrafo Site : This is the "Abuelitos" station, it seem like every place where Senior citizens work this station is always on, the barbershop I used to go with my dad when i was a kid, the old man who works repairing cars used to have this station all the time, my grandma heard it all the time. and that's because this station plays old song mostly from the 40's, the 50's and all the way to the 80's. With this station it will be easy to practice since most of the songs are slow and have really clear pronunciation. My favorite song from this station since my grandma sang it all the time when I was little.
  • Exa FM Site : This is the same as the first station, only Top 40 music in English and in Spanish. The one program I've heard from here is "Yordi en EXA" from 10 AM to 1 PM you might recognize him from this gif with the fake rhino, he used to be on a night show called "Otro Rollo" where he did all kinds of stuff the most memorable being "La Carrera de Botargas". After the show he pivoted and started writting parenting books. In his show he has guest on various themes like parenting, personal finance, relationships, healt, etc.
  • Ibero 90.9 Site : This radio station belongs to the "Universidad Iberoamericana Ciudad de Mexico" one of the most important private Universities here in Mexico. Since is a Universty radio you will mostly find alternative music. I've really never heard it for long so I can really recommend a specific show but if you enjoy alternative music you will enjoy this station and its shows
  • Ke Buena Site : This station plays mostly Banda, Salsa and Cumbia. Obviously all the songs will be in Spanish, might be kind of hard to understand what the presenter is saying since they all speak really fast. Most of the presenters have weird nicknames like: El Kokodrilo, El Mamut and El Chinche.
  • La Z : Pretty much the same as "La Ke Buena", they also play Banda, Salsa, Cumbia, etc. Both stations are widely heard in the suburban area of Mexico City, as well as on most construction sites, and in every bus I ever take
  • Noticias MVS Site : News is the dominant theme in this station. However, apart from having the always-recommended podcast "Dispara Margot Dispara", it was the center of some huge controversy when they fired Carmen Aristegui a few years ago after she uncovered "La Casa Blanca" of President Peña´s Wife. People protested, pages were hacked, people tweeted and posted angry comments on Facebook, and even after that the Station didn't hired her back! She now has her very own News site and is the main source of news for my aunts on Facebook.
  • Universal 92.1 Site : I know Radio Garden says 92.1 and the site says 88.1, I don't know why that is. Plays mostly classic rock, The Doors, The Rolling Stones, etc. The thing that has always been weird for me is that they say the names of the songs in Spanish, so they translate every title. They also have "El Club de los Beatles" which as you might guess plays only The Beatles, twice a day from 8 AM to 9 AM and from 1 PM to 2 PM. You'll hear "Submarino Amarillo" plenty of times.
  • W Radio Site : My all time favorite radio show "El Weso", politics is the main theme of this show, but they have a light tone about it, they sometimes make funny voice impressions, have lighthearted interviews, the chemistry between the presenters is amazing, sometimes they invite Fernando Rivera Calderon who makes songs about current news and sometimes sings "Las Mañanitas" in different styles, like Pink Floyd style. The show runs weekdays from 5 PM to 8 PM. Another show, that is not as heavy-handed and is on earlier is "Martha Debayle en W" all my girl friends hear this show and love it. It´s a fell-good show, they talk a lot about beauty, health and relationships. Easy to understand and really entertaining. In the site you can find some more shows with a lot of podcast, though they don't have transcription so that might be a problem.
Some radio stations that are not on Radio Garden but i belive they are worthy of a mention are:
  • Joya 93.7 Site : “Hoy con Mariano” is the oldest morning show in Mexico, runs weekdays from 6 AM to 1 PM, as the others, this show has contests, quotes of the day, experts advice and so on. The thing that sets him apart are his "Reflexiones", they were big some years ago. Even now you can hear them on Facebook sometimes. His "Reflexiones" are stories he narrates on his show. Some of them make people cry, including me, for me the best one is "Diaro de un Perro". "Reflexiones" will be great for practice since he talks clearly and slowly there's a lot already on Youtube and you won't have trouble finding a transcript for them.
  • Reactor 105.7 Site Stream : Most like Ibero 90.9 this station focuses on alternative music be it in English of Spanish. They have tons of interviews everyday with bands, designers, and artist. Sometimes they have live shows on parks were they play nothing but vinyl records. Great station you should check out.
  • Also here in Mexico every Sunday starting at 10 PM in every radio station we have a show called "La Hora Nacional" they usually talk about culture, history, music, and literature. Usually from a touristy spot or from some Fair or Festival, a lot of episodes are available on the website for you to hear and/or download.
  • Ke Buena Site : Esta estación toca mayormente Banda, Salsa, y Cumbiones.
The Rolling Stones, The Doors, etc.
If you guys have more stations from other countries I will love to check them out too.

2017.02.04 15:55 Jmanrocks The Urban Life: Planning

Across Agutrerra, many towns and cities rose from the ground, and were built to accommodate more people, as well as provide a modern and urban loving style for the typical Agutrerran. With this large amount of cities being built, they were also connected by many roads, major and non major, to make communication and travel faster throughout the Republic. To continue this urban development, more technologies and rules are going to have to be discovered and issued to keep up a good standard of living, for both Agutrerrans and Zarzadonians.
Because of the many cities growing, their growth and development had to be regulated to keep cities from looking ugly and unplanned for future growth. With this needed regulation, Reycaro himself passes laws to keep cities from preventing themselves from achieving success possible in the future, and putting them on the right track now.
Planning and Expansion
The cities grow everyday, and more roads and construction are needed to accommodate this growth, and with this growth, regulation must be present. In one of the first laws passed by the Consejo, all cities are to plan themselves accordingly with sophisticated city planning, and expand their cities along this idea, to plan for where other important buildings could go, and provide easy and simply travel throughout the city.
Population
With growth of a city comes growth of a population. Many cities had populations growing at astronomical rates, and to keep cities from becoming too dense in unnecessary and unwanted places, more regulations were passed. In this regulation, a census of the city must be conducted every 5 years to see the growth of the city, or decline. Also, in construction and planning, population density should be the most dense towards the center, and gradually descend outwards from the center, until there is low density, then none.
Adminstrative Centers
Since there are now more living areas across Agutrerra, more administrative centers in these cities are needed. At the heart of every city, a leader's (of the city) working space or home is required, an area for delivering message and receiving them (though they can be received at home), and space for other important buildings now or the future.
City Centers
City centers are supposed to be the heart of the city, and thus, these areas are supposed to be the most beautiful. In these city centers, administration buildings are there, as always, as well as dense living spaces for citizens, parks to enjoy nature in, and shopping areas, that offer everyone from food to clothing and much more.
The foundation towards a more beautiful and planned Agutrerra has been laid, and much more to come.

2016.11.09 06:42 audiotjradio The Foreign Stars Of Lucha Libre - Part Two: CMLL and It´s Long History (1990-2000: Part 3)

-Huge farmer Salomon Grondy was a big hit. He wrestled at World Class, but here was set up as a kid-friendly babyface, a throwback to the times of The Blimp kind of attraction and was very successful, he succeded a main event draw and took Brazo De Plata hair, but lost his hair in a rare american hair feud with Fabuloso Blondy. He went to AAA in 92, but was not the same star as before. He had a last match in a OCESA show in 1998.
-About Konnan. Well he was from Florida, but came to learn in Tijuana after being tricked into the lucha world. He debuted around 87 and with a very imposing physique, he was a total hit in Tijuana and Ciudad Juarez. He was brought to El Toreo with Rey Misterio Sr in late 88-early 89, but then was brought fulltime to EMLL, where he was not commited neither to the tecnico or the rudo side, getting huge heat and doing mostly what right now, Los Ingobernables are doing in two companies (Rush, La Mascara in CMLL, Naito and his crew in NJPW), not giving a damn about the company. In 1990, he start a huge feud against Perro Aguayo who took his mask...the rest is history.
-Of note: EMLL ended his membership with the NWA, so in 1990 it was announced that they would have it´s own sanctioned goverment body known as Consejo Mundial De Lucha Libre that would have new championships and would have a membership for mexican promoters from the top cities, such as Monterrey, who had promoter Carlos Elizondo, one of the most succesful and already was working some of the sunday Arena Mexico shows with stacked shows. They had TV and lured some of the big UWA stars back into their fold. One thing, the name CMLL was first used as part of a small brand that used Arena Pista Revolucion in the mid-90´s to give work to indie wrestlers and veterans combined with some current stars. After this ended, then Empresa Mexicana De Lucha Libre finally rebranded totally into the CMLL. They kept the NWA belts that on 2010 because of legal issues with the NWA, rebranded then to the CMLL Historical Championships.
-The Animals were brought to have a run, which was to drop the masks againt Atlantis and Lizmark. The two canadians were unmasked as Eddie Watts and Kerry Brown, yes, the Stampede wrestler that was billed as son of Bulldog Bob Brown. He was billed sometime as Mike Denton in some shows here. Watts, well, he resurfaced in UWA and in AAA.
-Big Bang was a masked wrestler that only did one Arena Coliseo show. It was rumored to be Jack Victory of WCCW, NWA and ECW fame.
-Kamala came in late 1990 to CMLL, billed as Gigante Kimala. He had a very long tour and was main eventing, feuding with Mil Mascaras. They had the first ever steel cage match in Mexico, thing that at the time had lucha purist enraged and disgusted. Yes, in 1991. After this, he had his last WWF run where he went babyface.
-Black Magic was a british technical wrestler that was a fixture in Florida under his own name, Norman Smiley. He was spotted at a WCW tournament and was brought for a very sucessful run as a face and later as a rudo around 92 and 93, leaving later and being well known for his WCW matches. He came back one and off mostly for AAA. He was well liked because he looked like a throwback wrestler and that was respected by the older crowd.
-Vampiro Canadiense was a young kid from Canada that history said that with a handfull of money came into EMLL office and was spotted as a star. He started in opening matches in the Arena Mexico shows, but his natural charisma, long hair and rock and roll attitude make him a overnight face sensation, they put him a rocket and soon was doing movies and even a rock tour. But then he tried to move on from being a sensation and begin to learn to wrestle and even tried boxing. Once he was part of a AAA show in US, as a CMLL star, something unprecedented at the time and also had the UWA title. After his CMLL run ended, he went into AAA (for a short time), Japan and Promo Azteca, later he arrived at WCW. He came back to CMLL, but it was another time and he just faded and was a revived star in AAA, even using his old look, but since he was into other stuff, he then begin working part time, with right now being an important part of Lucha Underground.
-Aaron Grondy was the kayfabe brother of Salomon Grundy. In reality he was Mike Shaw, who had a great run in Stampede as Makhan Singh and in WCW as Norman The Lunatic. He did not have the same charisma as Salomon and went rudo, losing a hair match against Super Porky. He later had bigger fame back in US as Bastion Booger in WWF.
-Nitron was a big canadian wrestler that also worked in All Japan and WCW. He was a partner in crime of Fabuloso Blondy and was presented to feud with Vampiro. He also later was part of the Monterrey north american wrestler invasion. Then, as Tyler Mane, he had a acting career that landed him in the X-Man first movie.
-Astro De Oro was a top star from Guatemala that was mostly undercard and had some push on the outside circuit of Arena Mexico, mostly Coliseo, Pista Revolucion, Cortijo and the other state arenas. He had a foe from his country, a heel called Skeletor.
-Enigma De Oro and Kayam were two California based veteran luchadores that already had a run a decade earlier in UWA, but now they had a shot to be in EMLL shows. They were a nice midcard depth addition. They also had runs in Tijuana.
-Kendo Nagasaki, the man known in US and Canada mostly as Mr. Sakuraba, came as Kendo to do a small run in CMLL rings, but nothing really outstanding. He came after a good run as The Dragonmaster in WCW. He toured Puerto Rico and then went back home were he worked places like Big Japan and other areas.
-Mongolian Mauler AKA Ole Black Eyes...he came to Arena Mexico for a short run. He was a bald dude with contacts making his eyes look totally black. After this run, he went to WCW and WWFbriefly and then had just one match at Smoky Mountain. He was not a good fit because of his all brawling style.
-A japanese tag team in full ninja gear came to EMLL. Koga and Iga were part of the undercard. They came from SWS and one of them had some sucess as Masao Orihara in multiple companies. Orihara had some later sporadic runs under his name in EMLL and earlier was part of UWA.
-Los Canibales Bookers 1 y 2...who was the inteligent brain that came with that?...that was the way that the 1991 version of The Moondogs were presented at EMLL shows with not a lot of fanfare. They went to USWA and were a moneymaker hit as crazy brawlers.
-Kyoko Inoue & Toshiyo Yamada were some of the best wrestlers in the world and were different than the aging woman luchadoras with a strong style and rough technique. So, EMLL had to bring the Moreno Sisters, young dynamic wrestlers that worked the japanese style. Inoue and Yamada were tough, winning titles and having big time feuds with top stars like Aja Kong & Bison Kimura.
-Ultimo Dragon was, well, very known before as Yoshihiro Asai, a great graceful wrestler who had the same mold as Sayama and the same luck to strike a awesome taylor made character. He had a nice main event run, even winning the CMLL Middleweight title and having cool matches against top talent. He later went to AAA in a short stint and to his great WCW run that ended with the career threatening arm injury that sidelined him for the next six years. He came back to CMLL and then had his WWE run. After that he went to Japan working his own companies and dojos and running the yearly Dragonmania shows in Arena Mexico, wrestling mostly on these shows with some special apperances in other places.
-Love Machine came and he struck gold as he entered a feud with Blue Panther, who after injuring one of Love´s feet, challenged him to a mask match that was very succesful and had the piledriver ban start in Mexico because of the finish. He was unmasked as Art Barr, who after his start in Portland had a brief stay on WCW. He also did some stuff in Japan. He became a star in EMLL, but greater fame was to be when he jumped to AAA, were he went full rudo and with Eddie Guerrero had one of the greatest tag teams in history, Los Gringos Locos. They had the greatmatch at the legendary When World Collide PPV were they lost their hairs to El Hijo Del Santo y Octagon. They were shockingly joined by Konnan, Chicano Power, Black Cat and others to form a faction that some say was the blueprint for later wrestling groups. Barr died too young in 1994.
-Of note: CMLL creative Antonio Peña was the driving force of EMLL success until that point and even the company could not deny that. But some main event wrestlers began to think that the money and conditions were not enough for the stars they were. So, Peña, Konnan and some main stars left the company to start with the assistance of some power players and the TV, a new company called AAA that attracted the EMLL and UWA main eventers, some of their most promising young stars and some really young hot rookies. Because they did not were able to secure a Mexico City building to start, they had a different business model by touring and taping a weekly TV show, being a big draw and big hit. EMLL was shocked and hurt, putting a lifetime ban at least to Konnan and Peña and later doing bussiness again with some wrestlers. Hard times they were, but again for a third time and not the last one...they overcame.
-Mima Chan and Mari Chan came as a (babyface) tecnico duo in 1992. Pretty but deadly, they had a nice small run. In reality, they were Mariko Yoshida and Mima Shimoda, who were stars back in Japan. Shimoda came back in 2006 and had a long stay till 2012, working ruda later in her career.
-When CMLL decided the tournament for the Womans title, they decided it should an international flavor and a major star to give credibility to the belt...what better option than japanese superstar Bull Nakano. She came and destroyed everyone in a royal battle and then steamrolled mexican legend Lola Gonzalez to win another title to her already impressive collection that later included the WWF Womans Title. She had another run that was ended when Xochitl Hamada, daughter of Gran Hamada, won the CMLL belt.
-Kaoru was another young lady from Japan that came to try her luck...and got a nice run that ended when she lost her mask against La Diabolica. Back in her home country she had a very nice career. The tag team of top AJW star Suzuka Minami and Yumiko Hotta came also for a short run. Hotta in 2012 was somewhat connected to CMLL when she defeated La Comandante in a hair match in Japan.
-King Haku was the man that once was the King Of WWF. He was a hit with people, he had a long run that the main building was him stading up for people against evil Pierroth Jr. He was part of a EMLL-UWA talent exchange briefly that watched him wrestle Canek in a dream match for some. They were stories that some guys tried to stiff him...you just imagine the result, some very hurt guys along the way. His run ended a year later but was brought back to Monterrey to a indie show around 2010. He had an impact, such that a young mexican indie wrestler billed himself as King Haku Jr!.
-The Great Kabuki, the red mist madman from Japan came here as a special atraction to Arena Mexico. He was presented as a dangerous man that traveled around the world, wrestling in a lot of NWA territories (mostly Texas) and featured mostly at All Japan.
-The Real Queen Aja Kong came here and amazed everyone with her brutal force. She is one of the top superstars in Japan and had a very succesful EMLL run and was part of a short AAA run in 2000. Still wrestles and came this year to The Lucha World Cup with AAA.
-Debbie Malenko was an all around wrestler billed as part of the legendary Malenko family. She came from Japan with frecuent tag team partner Sakie Hasegawa, another great wrestler. They work mostly against Lady Apache and Las Moreno because they were the only ones tough to face them. It was a nice run.
-Reyna Jubuki AKA Akira Hokuto is one of the true hall of famers of female wrestling. As you see, despite the AAA crisis, EMLL brought the greatest japanese female wrestlers of all time. She had a huge impact, even winning the CMLL belt.
-After their UWA runs, Jado and Gedo came for EMLL run that had them in the midcard with some success for them. They would be back as superstars in the mid 2000´s alongside Lyger as CTU. They still go strong at both NJPW and NOAH.
-Two of the most violent wrestlers in the world came to Arena Mexico. After their run in UWA, The Headhunters were brought to give a boost to the tag team division and they also here had success, winning the CMLL Tag Team belts and even #1 won the Grand Prix in 1995 giving Vampiro a brutal beating in front of a silent and shocked crowd. They stayed alongside some international stars that were brought by international agent Victor Quiñones, until CMLL decided his wrestlers no longer fitted the roster. Despite that, they would be back, shocking people when they were book as faces. They later resurfaced in AAA, with #II leaving the sport for some time, leaving #1 working AAA and then apparently, under another gimmick in another place.
-Yes, he was The Gobbledygooker in WWF and Lazer-Tron in WCW. Hector Guerrero had a midcard shot to try and have success as Lasertron, but nothing really happened.
-A young, long haired, very handsome and surprisingly talented canadian wrestler debuted at Arena Coliseo and then, had main event status with great matches. Corazon De Leon had a nice three year run at EMLL that gave him some gold and a great learning experience for later. He was supposed to be part of AAA in 95, but nothing happened. After his depart from Mexico, he landed at ECW (with previous stint at SMW as part of the Thrillseekers) as...Lionheart Chris Jericho...the rest, you know it already, Philipe.
-Pegasus Kid after his UWA run went back to Japan. In 94 he was billed in a US based AAA show with Tito Santana and Two Cold Scorpio defeating Blue Panther, Jerry Estrada and La Parka and also was part of a AAA japanese tour. Then he was brought for a short run at EMLL arenas. Then, he went to ECW as Chris Benoit...you also now the rest.
-Earthquake was brought as an insurance policy for Pierroth and to feud with King Haku, but he only wrestled one match. You know him for his japanese sumo experiencies, runs in WWF and WCW with some bizarre gimmicks like The Shark, Avalanche and Golga. We don´t forget you sir.
-Ishin Riki was a japanese wrestler who came to feud and chellenge Ultimo Dragon for his NWA Middleweight Championship. It was a short trip.
-Yamato is the man AKA Tiger Chung Lee. He brought a japanese mask and had a great UWA run and also had some CMLL matches, being part of the first Mexico City Grand Prix.
-Japanese well known wrestler Kodo Fuyuki was brought to EMLL for a feud with Vampiro as Riki Fuyuki. He did not have much of an impact, but did his job. He kept wrestling until his untimely death.
-A legend amongst wrestlers. Hayabusa before the run that made him legend in FMW, had a learning curve under the legendary mask in EMLL un the midcard. He came before in the FMW tour as Eiji Ezaki and even before his EMLL stint had matches at WWA in Tijuana. After this run he became a major star in Japan until his tragic accident.
-In a moment that EMLL tried to boost the international roster, they brought two japanese young wrestlers, Nobutaka Araya and Takashi Okano, mostly to compete in the CMLL Tag Team Title Tournament. Okano before was part of UWA and Araya became a well known commodity in WAR and All Japan.
-After their UWA run, Ricky Santana and Miguelito Perez came to EMLL and were pushed as stars, feuding with top tecnicos in inciting the always heated sport feud of Mexico vs. Puerto Rico. They had their hair wins and losses. Perez went also to work in AAA.
-Kitahara was a heel from Japan that did have an underwhelming stint in 94, but no one notice it.
-Japanese hardcore fixture Jason The Terrible came to Arena Mexico and...it was not exactly a fit with the classic style. He fitted much better in a later AAA tour in 2003 alongside Leatherface, who months later had his own CMLL run.
-Big Fidel Sierra after a couple of dates with UWA, brought his El Boricua gimmick to CMLL, feuding with Pierroth Jr, who unmasked him. Ironically, Pierroth would use a Puerto Rican gimmick after his own WWC stint. Sierra would be back, losing his hair and having some showings from time to time here. On later dates, another El Boricua resurfaced, but this time was veteran mexican wrestler Herodes, they were doing invader gimmicks with national wrestlers at the time.
-Mr. Ray-Tings Ray Gonzalez was brought to feud with El Dandy, who was a terrible bloody mess after Gonzalez destroyed him in the middle of the sacred Arena Mexico ring. He had his shot at the NWA Lightheavy title from Dandy on a losing effort. Rumor says that Pierroth Jr lost also his mask against Gonzalez in Puerto Rico after losing it in Mexico against WCW La Parka.
-Edward Lomeli came from Chicago, so, he was billed Chicago Express. He went trough a good midcard run as a face, but then changed to rudo and he faded away further in the card and then dissapared.
-From Japan came an odd-couple tag team. Bison Kimura was a rough woman who nobody wanted to mess with her in or out of the ring. Chikako Shiratori was a beautiful princess that was a natural fit for a babyface run, but no. Anyway, they were a tremendous tag team and it was a nice short run for them.
-Ichihara was billed as...Onita Jr and had runs in Tijuana and CMLL were he was mostly used as a midcard talent and part of the NWA Welter Championship Tournament. He went back to FMW, where he became Flying Kid Ichihara.
-The man once known as Tom Brandi and Salvatore Sincere and The Patriot came to CMLL in a one night shot as part of the Grand Prix as Johnny Gunn, the name he used at WCW, AWF and ECW. Some remember him of the legendary promo by Mark Mero that made famous the word jabroni using him as an example, calling him out by his real name.
-After his initial learnig curve stint at UWA, Great Sasuke came as a top star against Pantera (of WWF fame later) in Arena Mexico, challenging him for the NWA Welterweight Belt. Later, he came part of the Grand Prix.
-The man known as Crypt Keeper in UWA came to CMLL under a new gimmick, jamaican masked wrestler Foreign Exchange (yes, that was his name). He was dressed as somekind of pink Ultraman gear...not very succesful...became a regular upper when the Boricuas came.
-Yoshihiro Tajiri was a clean cut japanese kid that came in 95 for a good midcard run till ´98, winning a hair match and wrestling mostly scientific, but with some scary kicking ability. Then, one day grew his beard, put some pants and became ECW legend Tajiri. He had some later small runs mostly on tour with Ultimo Dragon.
-Jaguar Yakota is another huge japanese legend that had a Arena Mexico visit. She is most remembered for her incredible showcase a decade earlier at UWA. A young woman billed as Yuki Lee also came, but not much was known.
-Billed as a great sensation, Tiger Mask IV came to Arena Mexico to the Grand Prix and...did his best. He later has worked with CMLL on the NJPW Fantasticamania shows.
-Yone Genjin was brought to be a lower midcard japanese rudo that had a nice run in all the CMLL circuit...nothing special.
-Of note: Because of dissagreements, some stars left AAA and with UWA veterans that at the time also were AAA featured stars, began a wrestler managed group called PROMELL (that first was a satellite company inside AAA that tried to work three separate brands at a point). They worked a agreement to broadcast their shows on TV Azteca network, bringing some CMLL stars to boost up the shows. They were also touring the country and in a very shocking move, they came to Arena Mexico to work PROMELL vs. CMLL branded shows, with former CMLL stars that the company at one point vowed thewy would never be welcomed back at the company. But then...Konnan, some of the veteran stars and the young workhorses left AAA and with help of affilieated promoters, were brought to PROMELL. Some of the company top leaders left and the company was now billed as Promo Azteca. Suddenly they also brought CMLL stars like El Dandy and Silver King, some of them alongside former AAA stars were getting WCW contracts. Despite the situation, at a point some PA agents worked some pact with CMLL and ran shows at some arenas showcasing wrestlers from both companies and even, allowed amazingly a Promo Azteca invasion to Arena Coliseo.
-After 11 years of her UWA debut, Lioness Asuka came back, now at CMLL, were she showcased her brutal style, feuding with legend Lola Gonzalez and young upstart Lady Apache.
-Chaparrita ASARI was a young japanese sensation that came for the CMLL Womans Title...and lost against Lady Apache in a tournament final.
-Tsubasa is another in a long line of japanese young upstarts to come to Mexico and learn, he had his shots at the midcard and he can say it was a modest good run. He later had some nice runs in his home country in Osaka Pro.
-Steel was a menacing strongman from Canada that hit it big as main eventer, tormenting Rayo De Jalisco Jr. in a reboot of evil foreigner vs. mexican hero kind of feud. He even attacked Rayo Sr. in a shoking way and won the CMLL Hevyweight Title. But...a mask match was inevitable and he lost his hood to the delight of the crowd against Rayo Jr. Sean Morley ended his run and went to a bigger success as Val Venis in WWF, with a unexpected visit from him in a later show in Arena Mexico, one of the only times a WWF contracted wrestler was allowed to wrestle in a CMLL show. Because of his mexican connection, he was later a regular on WWE Mexico tours.
-Shinobi was another wrestler that came for Japan on small stints.
-Kevin Queen was a wrestler that had some success as a tag team partner of Christopher Daniels in midwest indie territories and came for a small uppercard run...not much came of it.
-Dan Kroffat after his previous UWA run with Doug Furnas and fresh from ECW and WWF stints went solo...and came to CMLL under a mask, despite being a well traveled wrestler and having a story already. He was billed as The Blue Blazer II...Underwhelming at best, he was a strange midcard atraction that ended shortly.
-Taka Michinoku also came without fanfare, but did his best to stand out and ended having a very respectful run. He also had some AAA dates but left to WWF, were the Lightheavyweight division was tried to be build around him. He has been more successful in Japan, where he still wrestles as part of Suzuki-Gun.
-Shima Nobunaga, Sumo Fuji, Suwa, Dragon Kid, Magnum Tokyo and Ryo Saito were Ultimo Dragon students that had a showcase match at Arena Mexico, but they were mostly based at IWRG in Arena Naucalpan. Each one had his degree of success worldwide as fixtures for Toryumon, Dragon Gate, All Japan and indies back in Japan.
-Yuji Nagata is one of the top NJPW legends, but a the time he had a cup of coffee with WCW. CMLL despite their dislike for Konnan, they tried to build a relationship with WCW and some of the old Arena Mexico favorites and others came in the short lived package, including a visit from Nagata.
-After a long period of mostly old known faces, a new name come along...The man known in WWF as Kurgan and before as Goliath in UWA came as a bodyguard for the "black sindicate"...he was not succesful.
-Gigante Silva was a huge brazilian wrestler that had a run not doing much as part of The Oddities in WWF. He was brought as a Andre like atraction and caught fire everywhere for a long run as enemy of The Black Sindicate and El Clan Boricua, At the end he went rudo, actually joined Pierroth and Boricuas and disapeared, popping up later at NJPW and in MMA fights.
-Super Kendo was a veteran luchador from Republica Dominicana that has been leaving in Mexico since the seventies. He has been a lot of characters, losing the mask of El Diamante to Dos Caras at El Toreo, then resurfaced as his most famous gimmick, karate high-flyer Kendo, losing the hood against Blue Panther. Years later and after being here and there, resurfaced as Transformer and when he left UWA, he went to AAA as...Kendo Star and then Ninja De Fuego, doing also stints in Promo Azteca and EMLL. By 99, a man called...Super Kendo begin to appear at CMLL show...it was the same man...in the same original mask and gear. He still had a run and by 2002...he lost the mask in Tijuana against Super Parka.

2016.08.12 17:45 CountOrlok82 (Long read) What's in a Tournament?

So I've decided to try my hand at long-form writing again. Who knows if this will keep up, but I thought I'd post this on here and see what happens.
I suppose I'll use a cheap plug to promote my site Superplexed: Wrestling Abridged as well.
I'll say that the only reason I had the motivation to start this is thanks to this sub and the many folks who inhabit it.
Cheers to you!
What’s in a Tournament?
The month of June in the year 1900 was notable for three crucial events: political unrest in China boiled over into the Boxer Rebellion, the German Reichstag approved the expansion of the Imperial Navy and a young George Hackenschmidt entered a 40 day professional wrestling tournament in Russia, going on to capture the heavyweight titles associated with the cities of Moscow and St.Petersburg respectively. While this is somewhat of an obscure footnote in the storied annals of pro wrestling history, it highlights the storied tradition tied to the tournament format – one which thrives to this day.
Fast forward to 2016. While the landscape of wrestling has undergone a seismic shift since the carnival days of yore, the crown jewel of many promotions remains a tournament. Why? Simply put, the ability to showcase talent over the course of a grueling single or multi-day event not only sells tickets, but also allows for the prolonged suspension of disbelief in a medium known for its campy nature.
Alright, enough with the flowery prose and history lesson, let’s get to the examples; a showcase, if you will, of some of the more entertaining tournaments wrestling has given us to date.
The NWA World Heavyweight Championship Tournament (1993)
Ah yes, the National Wrestling Alliance. While the territory giant held the sport of kings in its collective palm throughout the ‘70s and ‘80s, the rise to power of the World Wrestling Federation – and to a lesser extent the American Wrestling Association – forced the NWA into a stark realization: the legitimacy of their once-exalted championship was now a shell of its former self. By the early ‘90s, even their most lucrative territory – World Championship Wrestling – had broken away, causing the NWA to vacate the heavyweight championship.
It was decided that a tournament would be held to crown the next NWA World Heavyweight Champion and would feature the likes of Shane Douglas, 2 Cold Scorpio, Chris Benoit, 911, Doink the Clown, Dean Malenko, Osamu Nishimura and The Tazmaniac. While the surreptitious finish to the tournament was known only to three men (Then NWA Eastern Championship Wrestling booker Paul Heyman, owner Tod Gordon and Douglas) the ripple effect it caused overshadowed an otherwise technically impressive tournament and ushered in the era of ‘extreme’.

The Super J Cup (1994)
Gimmicks have also become synonymous with the tournament format in wrestling. While some prefer to bash each other with foreign objects (don’t worry – we’ll get there) others prefer to highlight other facets of the sport. Take the Super J Cup, for example. At its core, the Super J Cup turned the spotlight on the junior heavyweight division featuring both mat technicians and high-flyers alike.
Conceived by Japanese puroresu figurehead Jushin ‘Thunder’ Liger, the original J Cup was a multi-organization, single-day tournament held at Sumo Hall in Tokyo, Japan on on April 16, 1994. Representatives from New Japan Pro Wrestling, Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling, Wrestle Association R, Michinoku Pro Wrestling, Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre and the Social Progress Wrestling Federation would do battle to determine the first ever J Cup champion and prove that size did not a giant make. The tournament was eventually won by Chris Benoit (wrestling under a mask as Wild Pegasus) who defeated The Great Sasuke in what is still viewed as one of the all-time great junior heavyweight matches.

Kawasaki Dream (1995)
Otherwise known infamously as the IWA King of the Deathmatch, this 8 man proverbial bloodbath is best known for the final between Terry Funk and Cactus Jack which would not only become the golden goose amongst tape traders of the day, but also an internet sensation in the early aughts. Held at an outdoor baseball stadium in Kanagawa, Japan on August 20, 1995, this was more of a Mick Foley highlight show than anything else. The reason why it still resonates is simple: the death match style was still very much on the fringes at the time. While the use of barbed wire and other foreign objects (thumbtacks were a relative novelty at the time) was common during the culmination of a long and bloody feud, building an entire tournament around the gimmick of “violence for violence sake” was pioneering. Sadly, we also got a glimpse into the twilight years of one of wrestling’s true gentle giants – Terry Gordy. Gordy was arguably well past his prime at this stage and his match against Foley is thankfully the shortest of the tournament.
One thing I’d also like to mention here: this was a scorcher of a day – literally. With temperatures hot enough during the daylight hours to cause dehydration amongst a few competitors and no shade in sight, it was a wonder that anybody stayed until the bitter end. But stay they did, and their loyalty was rewarded when a battered, middle-aged Terry Funk met Cactus Jack under the pale of twilight in a barbed wire rope, exploding barbed wire boards & exploding ring time bomb death match.
And here it is:
Video: Cactus Jack v. Terry Funk
King of the Ring (1996)
By the mid ‘90s, the King of the Ring tournament was entering its eleventh year, but you’d hardly know it. Granted, notable former winners still proudly flaunted their ‘royal’ status (Harley Race and Randy Savage being the most prominent ‘kings’) however the event itself was often eclipsed by the WWF’s bread and butter events like Summer Slam, the Royal Rumble and the mecca of professional wrestling pay-per-views, Wrestlemania. While the ’96 tournament wasn’t a standout with only the semi-finals and finals being televised on the show itself, it makes the list due to the fact that in a single promo, Steve Austin recreated himself, ushered in the much-touted ‘Attitude Era’ and put to rest the pantomime caricatures that dominated the ranks previously.
During the first semi-final bout, a plancha to the outside by Marc Mero landed awkwardly doing severe damage to Austin’s lip. While Austin went on to win the match, he was quickly ushered out of the ring and to hospital where he would receive multiple stitches to close the gash. This would play into the creation of the ‘Stone Cold’ image as Austin would return for the KOTR final against a sluggish Jake Roberts and beat him in spite of his obvious injury.
The tournament is most notable for Austin’s acceptance speech at the throne – otherwise known as the birth of Austin 3:16.

Battle of Los Angeles (2015)
Pro Wrestling Guerilla’s penultimate event is a three night tournament with a heavy focus on the very best domestic and foreign indy darlings. While PWG is still very much a smarky haven, the truth is that every BOLA event since its inception in 2005 has had something very special to offer. What PWG lacks in corporate financing and sponsorship (their events are always held at the same American Legion hall in Reseda, California) it makes up for in the sheer genius of Super Dragon’s booking and the talent in the ring.
You can argue that BOLA 2015 was the payoff to a decade long experiment in carefully dissecting and determining what makes a great tournament great. You want the drama of David v. Goliath? BOLA gives you not one, but two matches (Aerostar v. Brian Cage and ‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey v. Drew Galloway) to choose from. For those more inclined to the ‘flippy shit’ we have Mark Andrews v. Will Ospreay featuring a near-perfect dragonrana from Andrews. Tommy End v. Drew Gulak was a hard-hitting, strong style affair highlighting End’s extensive arsenal of strikes and Gulak’s ability to take them like a champ.
And then there’s the apex of internet smarkdom: Ricochet v. Zack Sabre Jr. The story these two men tell throughout their bout is beautiful in its simplicity and the dynamic they share between pushing their respective styles to the limit is a testament to the hard work and dedication both have put into their craft. From Sabre desperately seeking new ways to do damage to Ricochet’s damaged arm to the later’s unparalleled ability to innovate arial moves on the fly – this was a superb first round (!) match that deserves all of the acclaim it’s garnered to date.
Not to be outdone, there are fantastic showings on this card from Chris Hero, Biff Busick, Trevor Lee and Marty Scrull as well. End to end, night to night, BOLA 2015 is easily one of the best tournaments of the last decade and is as much a great entry point into the world of PWG as it is a testament to the quality of independent wrestling today.
While the fabric has changed drastically in the 100 plus years since George Hackenshmidt won that fabled tournament in Russia, the structure remains a cornerstone of the pro wrestling strata. It can be brought out to crown a champion or simply to determine a ‘best in show,’ but the tournament itself creates an insular environment complete with its own story, drama, ebb and flow.
Video: BOLA 2015 Highlights
It is as much a battle against the odds as it is with the individual competitor – survival of the fittest.

http://vozpopuli.com/analisis/81386-juan-luis-cebrian-y-la-impunidad
